Job Description:
Summary
This post-doctoral research position will be conducted in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of experts in neuroscience, immunology, pain, anesthesia, and machine learning. The team aims to recruit additional research staff, including post-doctoral research associates, a research technician, a research assistant, and a research nurse.
The successful applicant will co-lead the experimental inflammatory and immunology deep phenotyping components of the project, analyzing blood and serum samples from patients in an observational surgical cohort. Responsibilities include blood collection, hosting patient and public involvement activities, and administrative tasks.
Supervision will be provided by Dr. Helen McGettrick, Dr. Ali Mazaheri, Prof. Fang Gao Smith, and Dr. Andreas Karwath.
Main Duties
* Develop research objectives and proposals, potentially with mentorship.
* Contribute to research funding applications.
* Analyze and interpret research data.
* Disseminate findings through publications and seminars.
* Supervise students and support staff in research activities.
* Contribute to developing new models, techniques, and methods.
* Manage research-related administration and departmental activities.
* Engage in enterprise, business development, and public engagement activities.
* Collect research data using various methods, including experiments, literature reviews, and interviews.
* Present research outputs and draft academic publications.
* Guide support staff and students assisting with research.
* Address problems affecting research objectives and deadlines.
* Promote equality and diversity in the workplace.
Person Specification
* First degree in biomedical sciences or related field; higher degree or equivalent preferred.
* Experience in cell biology, immunology, or inflammation biology.
* Experience with clinical samples and data handling.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
* Knowledge of relevant models and techniques, with capacity to develop new ones.
* Effective resource management skills.
* Understanding of research management and administration.
* Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate research activities.
* Awareness of equality and diversity principles.
