Assistant Practitioner / Trainee Assistant Practitioner Physiotherapy

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the friendly, supportive Physiotherapy Team at the Cumberland Infirmary for a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner. Candidates will also be considered who are willing to work towards the Assistant Practitioner qualification.

We are looking for someone who is an enthusiastic team player to join the team based in the the Cumberland infirmary, predominantly working within the specialist area of Orthopaedics.

The right candidate will be expected to provide support and assistance to the registered physiotherapists. They will be responsible for managing a delegated caseload of patients, identified by the physiotherapist as being appropriate for the intervention of an Assistant Practitioner.


Main duties of the job

The service is part of wider physiotherapy service, with links to the team at the West Cumberland Hospital, as well as the wider health and social care settings across North Cumbria.

This provides many professional development opportunities and there is a strong focus on integrated working.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Foundation Degree or the willingness and ability to undertake
* Care Certificate
* GCSE English/Maths level 2 or equivalent
* NVQ 3 in health / sports science or equivalent
* ECDL or equivalent Assistant Practitioner qualification


Knowledge and Experience

* Previous experience in health care settings
* Working within a physiotherapy team
* Experience working with people where enabling and motivating skills are evident particularly with an older population
* Understanding of orthopaedic conditions and their management.
* Understanding of professional conduct
* Physiotherapy support staff role
* Use of outcome measures
* Awareness of impact of physical disability on lifestyle


Skills and Aptitudes

* Ability to work single-handed with individuals in a range of environments and awareness of limitations.
* Effective inter-personal skills.
* Ability to prioritise work load.
* Good personal organisation skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
* Ability to teach practical skills to other health care professionals
* Proficient skills in computing
* Teaching and presentation skills
