Overview
Design Safety Engineer role at Rolls-Royce (Defence) in Bristol, hybrid working with minimum 3 days on site per week. We are looking to fill multiple roles with a range of experience, from new graduates to experienced specialists.
Employer: Rolls-Royce Defence, Bristol and satellite site in Derby. We offer development, a competitive salary, and benefits. Hybrid working balances office, home, or other remote locations with a minimum expectation of three days per week in the workplace for collaboration and other required activities.
What You Will Be Doing
Design Safety engineers influence design by understanding how failures affect system operation, analyze resulting design, and provide feedback on safety or reliability impacts while ensuring appropriate standards are met. Responsibilities include:
* Evaluation of design concepts (potential failures, failure consequences, and product-level hazards) and definition of hazard mitigation strategies.
* Evaluation of a component design to identify potential failure modes and their effects and criticality (e.g., FMECA).
* Identification of critical and significant parts and systems through detailed product risk analysis.
* Numerical analysis of failures using deterministic and probabilistic methods.
* Analysis and quantification of risks related to human/system interaction, including Human Factors.
* Production of Safety Case reports.
* Operation of a Failure Reporting Analysis & Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
Who We’re Looking For
We value agility, collaboration, and simplicity in our approach. The following role-specific skills are preferred:
* Degree-level qualification in a STEM subject with experience in a relevant engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical, or Controls).
* Strong problem-solving ability; holistic approach; analytical and logical thinking.
* Familiarity with the design, operation, and environment of gas turbine engines.
* Knowledge or experience in Safety & Reliability engineering techniques.

Security Clearance and Nationality
For Rolls-Royce Defence roles you must hold a UK Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats or be eligible to apply for it. Rolls-Royce will support clearance applications if you do not currently hold it. Due to the nature of the work and asset protection, you must hold UK nationality.
