Overview
As a Hardware Expert for HVDC Control and Protection you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for both wind farm grid connections and interconnectors, making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Manchester.
How You'll Make An Impact
* Prepare hardware designs and circuit diagrams for control & protection panels for high voltage DC transmission (HVDC) systems
* Handle the corresponding technical documents, cost calculations, circuit diagrams and manuals during offer stage and project execution
* Design of BCU-based substation control systems for high voltage direct current systems (HVDC)
* Program databases for hardware configuration and signal management
* Implement control software and verify using simulation tools and real-time test environments
* Supervise workshops during panel manufacturing and support acceptance/functional tests, including occasional travel
* Clarify technical requirements within project teams and with customers and suppliers
* Prepare work packages for sub-suppliers and manage these work packages
* Provide remote support during commissioning and service of HVDC systems
What You Bring
* University degree in electrical engineering or comparable professional training with significant experience
* Excellent knowledge of hardware for control & protection panels for high voltage substations or energy generation/transmission plants
* Very good knowledge in parameterisation of bay control units (BCUs), ideally SIPROTEC 5 devices with DIGSI and CFC (Continuous Flow Chart)
* Very good CAE knowledge, ideally in Engineering Base
* Experience in measuring and instrumentation technologies for high voltage transmission systems; knowledge of Power Quality and Fault Recording Systems is a plus
* Solid understanding of high voltage and substation technology, interlocking schemes, and automated control sequences
* Good knowledge of secondary interfaces of HV components such as switching devices, transformers, CTs and VTs
