Responsibilities
* Deliver countywide specialist learning‑disability nursing under the guidance of the Lead Nurse, managing a caseload of clients with complex learning disabilities.
* Provide professional supervision, appraisal and professional development to staff and students, including mandatory training.
* Contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of learning disability services and to defined projects delegated by the LDP management team via the Lead Nurse.
* Act autonomously to assess, identify and treat the health needs of adults with a learning disability.
* Engage in multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working within the LDP and with key partners.
* Travel independently around the county to meet service needs, holding a full UK driving licence and having access to a vehicle (public transport is not acceptable).
Qualifications
* Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of working with adults with a learning disability; willingness to undertake appropriate post‑registration training.
* Knowledge of health and social care policy and legislation relevant to the service user group and professional practice.
* Ability to keep up to date with and support the implementation of national recommendations, including Learned‑Disability Employment Review (LeDer) findings and other health initiatives.
* Understanding of the specific needs of the service user group, including during times of crisis such as placement breakdowns, mental health and physical health relapses, and periods of challenging behaviour.
* Recognition of a person’s communication needs and the ability to tailor interaction accordingly.
* Skill in communicating sensitive or distressing information to service users and carers as required.
* Proficiency in conflict resolution and positive behaviour approaches.
* Capability to plan, implement and regularly review nursing care plans.
