Overview
Role Title: Linux Technical Specialist
Duration: contract to run until 31/12/2026
Location: Fleet, Hybrid 2/3 days onsite
Rate: up to £460 p/d Umbrella inside IR35
We are seeking a skilled Linux Technical Specialist to manage and maintain our Linux-based infrastructure. This role is critical to ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support applications and services running on Linux platforms, while driving automation and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
* Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).
* Perform system updates, patching, and performance tuning.
* Monitor system health and resolve technical issues proactively.
* Implement and maintain security controls to protect system integrity.
* Conduct vulnerability assessments and security audits.
* Manage firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other security tools.
* Configure and troubleshoot network settings on Linux systems.
* Ensure seamless connectivity and integration across platforms.
* Support DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP configurations.
* Design and implement backup strategies for critical systems.
* Perform regular backups and validate recovery procedures.
* Develop scripts to automate routine tasks using Bash, Python, or Perl.
* Support configuration management using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
* Provide technical support to internal teams and resolve Linux-related issues.
* Work closely with developers to optimize application performance.
* Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations and procedures.
* Generate reports on system performance, incidents, and compliance.
Required Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator or Technical Specialist.
* Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
* Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, KVM).
* Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
* Solid understanding of networking protocols and services.
* Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl).
* Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
* Certifications such as RHCE, RHCSA, or LPI.
* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
