TXM Recruit are supporting a leading engineering organisation in the search for an experienced Fleet Engineer to join their team based in Derby. This is a key position within the engineering function, responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a national fleet of traction and rolling stock.
Purpose of the Role
* Support, manage, and deliver testing, commissioning, overhaul, and in-service reliability of a UK fleet of traction and rolling stock.
* Ensure that all assets are maintained to the highest safety, availability, and performance standards.
* Provide technical support, lead incident resolution, and liaise with customers, suppliers, and industry partners to maintain operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary technical contact for all matters relating to the traction and rolling stock fleet.
* Oversee and coordinate maintenance planning, service delivery, and supplier performance.
* Manage spare parts, tooling, and materials in collaboration with the procurement function.
* Lead technical investigations, fault analysis, and incident management to ensure timely resolution.
* Develop and maintain accurate technical documentation, configuration records, and asset management systems.
* Analyse performance and reliability data to drive continuous improvement.
* Conduct site visits, supplier audits, and safety tours to ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards.
* Represent the company at technical, commercial, and customer meetings.
* Provide support during operational incidents as part of the engineering on-call roster.
* Deputise for the Head of Engineering as required.
Qualifications & Experience Essential:
* HNC/HND (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline.
* Strong technical knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems.
* Experience in maintenance planning, engineering management, and fault resolution.
* Proficient in MS Office and fleet management systems such as TOPS, R2, or similar.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable:
* Membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers or Institution of Engineering and Technology.
* Familiarity with business development processes and supplier management.

* Hold valid PTS and DP certification (or willingness to obtain).
* Comply with all company safety procedures, ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of self and others.
* Maintain required medical and PPE standards.
