Job Title: Trainee Clinical Endoscopist
Grade: NHS AfC Band 6
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is offering an exciting training opportunity for a motivated practitioner to join our Nurse Endoscopist team. This is a trainee Band 6 position with the potential to advance to a Band 7 Clinical Endoscopist upon successful completion of a JAG-accredited training course and competency assessment.
The role requires extensive experience in endoscopy/gastroenterology. Training will be provided to achieve the necessary qualifications for JAG accreditation. The successful candidate will work across our busy endoscopy units within the Trust and Community Hospitals, with a flexible shift pattern covering weekdays, weekends, and evenings.
Main Duties
* Perform diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures, including gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy, with appropriate sedation.
* Assist in triage services as part of service transformation projects.
* Ensure patient suitability, informed consent, and accurate documentation.
* Manage caseloads independently, develop clinical knowledge, and act as a role model.
* Participate in audit, research, and service development activities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered healthcare professional
* Post-registration educational development evidence
* Degree in nursing or health-related subject
* Relevant teaching and leadership qualifications
* Training in PEG insertion, IRMER, and non-medical prescribing (or working towards)
Experience
* Minimum 2 years in Endoscopy/Gastroenterology
* Innovative clinical practice achievements
Skills and Attributes
* High clinical expertise and IT skills

* Knowledge of clinical governance and national developments
