As a Remote Controlled Yard Crane Operator, you will load and unload containers through the operation of a remote-control system directly from your desk.
You will be working from a purpose-built control room and specially designed command desk to suit varying needs.
These desks are fully adjustable/accessible, so the role is suitable for the broadest range of applicants including those with disabilities or restrictions around physical access.
You will be given full training to ensure you are compliant with all relevant safety procedures and performance standards

Role Overview
Operate Remote controlled Yard Cranes (RYCs) in support of all yard operations in accordance with the performance standards for the role and all Company policies and procedures. Always maintaining the highest standard of safety. Carry out any other duties within own capability in support of Remote Control operations.
Key responsibilities
10. Operate RYCs from a dedicated control room at a specially designed control station desk. Load and unload Internal Tractors (ITs) and external hauliers according to system instructions and all relevant procedures.
11. Operate the RYC in manual mode as required, performing lifting operations according to system instructions and relevant procedures.
12. Maximise efficiency, productivity and safety by working proactively and taking the initiative. Be prepared to point out potential issues so these can be resolved quickly with minimal disruption.
13. Assist with ad-hoc activities related to RYC operations as required and in line with own capability.
14. Comply strictly with all procedures for working in a control room environment including all Health & Safety procedures, dress code, radio procedures and behavioural standards.
15. Ensure that any documentation or electronic records are completed accurately.
What you need
16. General proficiency with Display Screen Equipment comfortable using keyboard, monitors, consoles, mouse etc.
17. Speak English to the required standard for the operation.
18. Excellent verbal communication skills.
19. Flexible & adaptable approach to work.
20. Observant with a keen eye for detail to spot potential issues/errors.
Shifts & Pay
21. Basic salary: £28,660 per annum
22. Shift Pay: £14,414 per annum
23. Hours: This role is a shift-based role, and all role holders will work a four-week cycle that includes daytime, evening and night working, averaging 42 hrs per week. Days: 07:00 – 15:00 (07:00 – 19:00 at weekends) Evenings: 15:00 – 23:00 Nights: 23:00 – 07:00 (19:00 – 07:00 at weekends)
