We are looking for an experienced Mechanical and Plumbing Services Operative to carry out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs, and minor works across University buildings. The role covers gas, heating, cooling, water and steam systems, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and industry best practice.
As a Mechanical and Plumbing Services Operative, you will undertake fault finding, servicing, and system upgrades, maintain accurate records using digital systems, and contribute to safety, legionella control, and energy efficiency initiatives. The role involves shift working, participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota paid at £140.00 per week (plus call-out fees), and occasional supervision of apprentices and contractors.
Essential Requirements:
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Building Services, Plumbing, or Pipe Fitting.
- Substantial post-qualification experience in Mechanical or Plumbing Services.
- Experience in boiler controls and combustion systems.
- ACS CCN1 (Domestic Gas) certification or equivalent commercial gas qualification.
- Full and valid UK driving licence, or successful completion of the driving theory test with a requirement to pass the practical test within 12 months of employment.
You will also be required to achieve additional domestic and commercial gas certifications (including CEN1, WAT1, COCN1 and others) within the first 6 months of employment. Full training and funding will be provided by the University.
