Principal EIA Consultant – Arcadis
Opportunity

We welcome experienced environmental professionals to join our Environmental Planning team as Principal Environmental Consultant, bringing broad EIA expertise to lead multidisciplinary projects, develop new business, and mentor team members.
Role description
As part of our growing and agile business, you will:
* Lead coordination and delivery of environmental work by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental outcomes.
* Undertake your own work to an excellent standard and review the work of others.
* Partner with other members of the Impact Assessment Team across the UK.
* Proactively manage selected projects or components, taking responsibility for resource allocation, subcontractor management and quality assurance.
* Lead and support tender proposals/bids as part of a project‑winning team.
* Provide environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues.
* Engage with consultees and stakeholders.
* Develop outstanding reports, summarising and explaining outcomes to non‑technical audiences.
* Oversee performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health & safety aspects.
Qualifications & Experience
* Strong knowledge of EIA practices and procedures and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles.
* Experience across a range of project types, ideally within energy, residential/mixed use/regeneration, and major infrastructure such as rail and highways.
* Proven experience managing and coordinating EIA screening and scoping activities and Environmental Statements, including technical review of specialist chapters.
* Practical knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting process.
* Excellent report writing, verbal and presentation skills, and experience reviewing others’ work for quality.
* Experience in multi‑disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects with strong project‑management and technical skills.
* Experience consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
* Ability to supervise members of staff as required.
* Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
* Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards it.
* A valid UK driving licence.
* Desired: Experience delivering SEA and/or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects.
* Desired: Knowledge and application experience of sustainability, waste or carbon assessments.
