An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Experienced Staff Nurse within the Cardiovascular Directorate on Sarah Swift Ward

Sarah Swift ward is a vascular ward with wide range of vascular specialities, including lower limb bypass surgeries and amputees, Enhanced recovery pathways for endo-vascular surgeries, thrombolysis, and exposure to complex wounds management and dressings.

Main duties of the job

The post requires applicant to be able to work under pressure, demonstrate excellent clinical nursing and communication skills, willingness to learn and develop new skills and strive to provide the optimum care for patients and their relatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Independently manage a group of patients within the speciality whilst
working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and
personalised direct patient care

Is wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence.

Effective communicator with patients/carers/families regarding treatment and management.

Demonstrate appropriate practice in the assessment,
planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.


Undertake physical observations as follows: blood pressure, temperature, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height, drain monitoring including measurement and escalate appropriately.

Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication via oral, enteral and IV routes including transfusion of blood and blood products

Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the
speciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead
others to do the same.

Work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to ascertain treatments and advise on nursing priorities.

Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advance clinical skills and responsible for carrying out specialist nursing procedures to area.

Complete evidenced based interventions including enteral feeding line care, IV line care, complex dressings and wound management, pre and post-operative care relevant to specialities.

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. basic computer skills
2. Able to assess, plan, implement & evaluate nursing care
3. Knowledgeable on basic nursing care
4. Knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct

Desirable criteria

5. An understanding of Audit and Research Based Nursing Practice
6. Completed cannulation and venepuncture
7. Completed cardio - vascular/ vascular related course

Experience

Essential criteria

8. Previous experience in other nursing fields

Desirable criteria

9. Experience in vascular / cardio-vascular nursing

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

10. Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
11. Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

12. Evidence of teaching/supervising junior colleagues/students
13. completed preceptorship course
