Job Title: Biomedical Scientist
The Blood Sciences Department is UKAS accredited. Your role will include completing all required quality documentation such as training, competency, and CPD. You must be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist or have an IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent. Candidates working towards HCPC registration will be considered. You must be able to provide documentary evidence of CPD at interview.
Main Responsibilities
1. Perform complex analyses and authorise results, reflex tests as required, and refer abnormal results to Consultants.
2. Maintain, calibrate, and quality control analysers; troubleshoot issues.
3. Perform blood grouping, antibody identification, and crossmatching using manual and automated techniques.
4. Provide blood and blood products promptly in emergency situations, prioritising and multitasking effectively.
5. Manage blood and blood product stock.
6. Train and supervise Band 4 staff.
Additional Information
The department will transition to Siemens Hema analysers, Coagulation ACL TOPS 550 analysers, and Ortho automated Blood Transfusion technology in 2025. The LIMS system is Clinisys Winpath. Experience with these systems is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided.
The department operates a 24/7 shift system including day, late, night shifts, weekends, and Bank Holidays. The successful applicant must participate in this schedule and may be required to cover cross-site duties as needed.
