Overview
The post holder will be responsible for Older Persons Services, covering GP surgeries in the South Gwynedd area. The post will provide CPA reviews and ward rounds for inpatients for the catchment area, outpatient clinics and medical input to the memory service. Dealing with organic referrals for the catchment area. Graduates by agreement with adult consultant psychiatrists for age 65 if meet criteria for complex needs. The post holder will be expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010. The post may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota. Undertake responsibilities if approved under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 approved doctor. Undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for people with cognitive impairment (including Young Onset Dementias) and those over 70 with functional illnesses – transition arrangements are in place for developing an age equal or needs based specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) from the catchment area, covering both functional and organic conditions.
They will work within the legislative arrangements of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, providing medical leadership to the CMHTE, and consultation work with Primary Mental Health Services for the Elderly. They will care coordinate a limited number of personal cases providing Care and Treatment Plans. They will provide Consultant and Responsible Clinician services to patients admitted to Hergest and Cefni Units, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act opinions for patients from their catchment area. They will provide reports and consultation services to support the Health Board in the commissioning of long term health care for patients from their catchment area.

Qualifications
* Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Welsh AC Approval.
Eligibility
* Essential: Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
Desirable criteria
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills
* Essential: Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team.
Teaching and Training
* Essential: Evidence of having delivered postgraduate teaching and multidisciplinary teaching.
* Desirable: Experience of teaching medical students.
Research/Audit
* Essential: Proven capability to initiate and undertake original work and to undertake a relevant audit project.
* Desirable: Evidence of research in relevant area.
Motivation
* Essential: Evidence of commitment and enthusiasm to provide specialist OPMH services.
Personal Qualities
* Essential: Demonstrate leadership skills; ability to work under pressure; good communication skills (written, oral and interpersonal).

* Essential: Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner; able to attend hospital within 30 mins for on-call duties.
