This post is for an STP accredited clinical scientist to support both the clinical and laboratory teams with particularly respect to microbiology and serology.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role is to support the laboratory and clinical team with the delivery and support for, primarily, the serology and virology service. This includes clinical oversight, authorisation and guidance on the reporting of results, responsibility for ongoing accreditation of serology and virology processes and equipment, to represent the laboratory, and to manage actions and policy, with respect to the Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy Service, and to manage quality assurance processes in the department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Support consultants on clinical duty at both RHCH and BNHH sites within normal working hours
2. Support the National ED HIV Opt out testing
3. Clinical Serological and Virology support for the antenatal screening program
4. Diagnostic Stewardship of serology / virology testing pathways
5. Serology lead and laboratory liaison to develop policies, provide expert technical advice, troubleshoot issues with serology results and testing, lead the team, chair team meetings, and conduct appraisals, reviews and recruitment
6. Investigate and manage laboratory incidents and non-conformities
7. Recommend and implement changes to service
8. To assist in assessing the needs of the service and of additional resources and developments required.
9. Collaboration with clinicians and scientists in areas of research
10. Support the laboratory and management teams in achieving and maintaining UKAS accreditation.
11. Support and undertake review of External Quality Assurance processes
12. Support the education and training of both laboratory and clinical team members.
13. Act as Infectious Disease in Pregnancy Service lead.
14. Assist in IT development and maintenance of IT support systems
15. Southern Counties Pathology liaison

Experience
Essential criteria
16. Experience in working in a diagnostic serology department
17. Experience of contributing to/supporting a laboratory through UKAS accreditation
Desirable criteria
18. Experience training biomedical and medical staff
19. Clinical experience working within an infection/microbiology department
Qualifications
Essential criteria
20. Successful completion of STP training
21. FRCPath part 1 microbiology/virology
Desirable criteria
22. Leadership, teaching or quality improvement qualifications relevant to specialty
Skills
Essential criteria
23. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the IDPS
24. Experience responding to laboratory IQA and EQA failures.
Desirable criteria
25. Evidence of audits completed relevant to the post
