Brook Street are partnering with a leading independent group in Monmouth to recruit a Finance Officer to support the smooth running of a busy finance function. This is a great opportunity for someone with solid accounting experience to step into a broad, hands‑on role with variety and visibility.
The role
* Bank and cash reconciliations for the main organisation and its trading company.
* Assisting with cashflow management and administration of pre‑paid cards.
* Departmental budget monitoring and reporting across academic, support cost centres and house funds.
* Preparing ad hoc financial reports and analysis for management as required.
* General ledger reconciliations and control account administration, including income stream reconciliations.
* Inter‑company cross charging between the main organisation and trading company.
* Providing cover and assistance with the day‑to‑day accounting requirements of the trading company.
* Supporting the Finance Manager with routine accounting and payroll activities.
* Offering general support and cover across the wider finance team when needed.
* Liaising with departments across the organisation to ensure accurate and complete financial information.
* Handling incoming queries (phone, email and in person) in a professional and friendly manner.
About you
* A recognised accounting qualification at minimum AAT Level 4 (or equivalent), part qualified ACCA/ACA/CIMA, or qualified by more than ample experience
* At least 2‑3 years' experience in a relevant accounting role with solid exposure to day‑to‑day finance operations.
* Strong understanding of accounting processes, including general ledgers.
* Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and Word.
* Good time management, problem‑solving skills and a flexible, "hands‑on" approach.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a confident telephone manner.
* High attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a calm, professional manner under pressure.
