Controls & Instrumentation Engineer – Gas Storage Excellent salary Bonus Benefits Alton, Hampshire MC Technical Recruitment are recruiting for a Controls and Instrumentation Engineer to join a Gas Storage Facility in Alton, Hampshire. This site provides strategic gas storage services that contribute to balancing gas supply and demand within the national gas transmission system. As the C&I Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating the maintenance and improvement of process control systems and site instrumentation to allow safe and efficient operation of the site. Reporting to the Asset Manager, responsibilities will include: Navigate the maintenance and improvements of safety and control systems to ensure a safe and efficient operation of the facility. Financially responsible for all C&I assets purchased. Lead and oversee technicians to ensure an accurate daily schedule is produced and worked to. Implement plant improvements and contribute to projects and upgrades. Promote health and safety, development and support the maintenance team with daily tasks. Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site CMMS. Support the full engineering lifecycle including front-end design, EPC, installation, and commissioning. Design and review instrumentation and control systems using basic engineering drawings. Ensure compliance with hazardous area requirements, including the design of electrical equipment for such environments (CompEx 12A & 12B certification or equivalent experience). Contribute to the design and verification of safety instrumented systems and functions, including SIL verification calculations (TUV certification or equivalent experience). Apply knowledge of control system programming using at least two of the five IEC programming languages. Other duties as required The ideal candidate will have: An apprenticeship in instrumentation engineering or similar. A relevant engineering qualification at HNC level or similar. Proven supervisory maintenance experience across control and instrumentation maintenance in a relevant engineering environment – power plant, refinery, paper mill, steel works, chemical, water treatment etc. Experience using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems). Knowledge of relevant legislation e.g., health and safety and environmental etc. Minimum 2 years of design experience in instrumentation and/or control systems. Demonstrable experience or certification in hazardous area design (CompEx 12A & 12B preferred). Demonstrable experience or certification in functional safety (TUV preferred). Familiarity with the full engineering lifecycle from design through to commissioning.
