Job Summary

The Pharmacy Dispenser provides pharmaceutical services in the outpatient pharmacy department ensuring efficient and high‑quality customer experience is maintained. The post holder will be working for Royal Free London Pharmacy (outpatient) and will be part of a high‑performing team expected to demonstrate behaviours that promote the outpatient pharmacy and Royal Free London values. In undertaking this role, the post holder is expected at all times to behave in a way that demonstrates commitment to respectful and compassionate care. The Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust pharmacies are passionate about delivering the highest quality care to all our patients. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and committed Bank Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant/Dispensers to join the temporary staffing BANK team. This role is based within outpatient pharmacies.


Key Responsibilities

* Ensure accurate receipt of all medicines received in the dispensary, including stock control.
* Assist the Pharmacy Technician in orientating new healthcare assistants and dispensers in the department.
* Participate in Continuing Professional Development and be compliant with MAST.
* Safely and accurately dispense medication.
* Provide safe and evidence‑based healthcare and OTC advice to patients.
* Accurately take in prescriptions and prescription monies.
* Prepare labels using the pharmacy computer system and correctly assemble prescriptions, ensuring each item is accurately dispensed and in the correct packaging according to SOP.
* Organise the timely supply of out of stock medication to patients, prioritise and delegate to other pharmacy team members when necessary.
* Communicate any delays in supply to the appropriate person.
* Receive deliveries from suppliers and manufacturers.
* Input medicines into the automated dispensing robot.
* Check delivery accuracy against paperwork.
* Query discrepancies and damaged stock with supplier or senior staff.
* Securely store stock into the allocated areas ensuring rotation of stock.
* Engender a customer‑first culture across the organisation, ensuring high standards of professional customer service.
* Build strong relationships with customers to understand their needs and deliver customer satisfaction.
* Support the Pharmacist to conduct regular customer and stakeholder surveys to measure satisfaction.
* Work with the Pharmacist on implementing customer service improvement plans in conjunction with the pharmacy team.
* Provide advice on leading a healthy lifestyle.
* Remain aware of current developments in Pharmacy.
* Participate in rotation, which may include working at other hospital sites where required.


Person Specification

* Education & professional qualifications (Essential) – Hold or be working toward NVQ level 3 qualification in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
* Royal Free World Class Values (Essential) – Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values.
* Experience (Desirable) – Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy ideally within outpatient setting.
* Experience (Desirable) – Experience in customer service.
* Experience (Desirable) – Experience of working in a community pharmacy setting.
* Experience (Desirable) – Experience of using prescription tracking system.
* Experience (Desirable) – Experience of working in an automated dispensary environment.
* Skills and aptitudes (Essential) – Intermediate or advanced computer skills.
* Skills and aptitudes (Essential) – Ability to prioritise own workload.
* Skills and aptitudes (Essential) – Good verbal and written English.
* Skills and aptitudes (Essential) – Good communication skills.
* Skills and aptitudes (Desirable) – Knowledge of drug names and terms.
