Role Context
This is a hands‑on supervisory and technical leadership role within the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team. The O&M Expert Technician will provide advanced technical support, mentoring, and on‑site supervision to technicians, ensuring maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with service level requirements across PV assets.
The role works closely with the Area Coordinator and wider operations teams to support service delivery, optimise field performance, and resolve technical issues across sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Team Coordination & Technical Supervision
o Support the Area Coordinator in the coordination of site teams, tools, and equipment
o Supervise technician activities and ensure sufficient resources are available for maintenance execution
o Conduct on‑site inspections of technicians’ work, assessing skills and providing training recommendations
o Participate in hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective activities where required
* Operations & Maintenance Delivery
o Supervise the implementation of preventative and corrective maintenance plans
o Conduct site visits to diagnose and resolve technical issues and customer queries
o Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in compliance with procedures and standards
o Support the coordination between on‑site teams and remote operations functions
* HSE, Compliance & Quality Assurance
o Promote adherence to Electrical Safety Rules, HSE policies, and legal requirements
o Ensure compliance with company procedures, guidelines, and industry standards
o Implement and monitor quality control measures to maintain high service standards
o Support safe working practices across all field operations
* Technical Support & Reporting
o Provide technical support and guidance to field technicians and subcontractors
o Assist in the implementation of utility‑scale PV technical standards and best practices
o Produce site reports, feedback, and performance updates for the Area Coordinator
o Support maintenance management systems and operational documentation
o Address customer technical inquiries and provide effective on‑site solutions
o Ensure high levels of customer service and communication during field operations
o Collaborate with internal teams to support service delivery and operational planning
Candidate Profile
Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering or O&M field operations
* Strong background in solar PV or renewable energy maintenance operations
* Experience in supervisory or lead technician roles within technical teams
* Familiarity with maintenance management systems and field service operations
Education & Certifications
* Degree, HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (essential)
* City & Guilds Inspection and Testing (required)
* HV systems knowledge (HVAP1 or higher desirable)
* Strong technical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
* Excellent supervisory and coordination abilities
* Strong commitment to safety, quality, and compliance

* Proactive, positive, and solution‑oriented mindset
* High attention to detail and accuracy in technical work
* Ability to work independently and as part of a field‑based team
Other Requirements
* Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
* Willingness to travel across UK sites at short notice
