Overview
Domestic Service including Rapid Response (CAT). To ensure that the ward(s) / areas you are assigned to are cleaned in accordance with the Work Schedule for those ward(s) / areas. Tasks include vacuuming floors; sweeping, scrubbing and mopping floors; high and low dusting; wiping over and polishing surfaces, mirrors, chairs, bed frames, bins, sani-bins; cleaning toilets, sinks, baths and showers; cleaning cookers, regeneration ovens, fridges, holding fridges, microwaves and other kitchen items; defrosting fridges on a regular basis; restocking consumables such as toilet tissue, hand towels, soap; descaling taps; and bins and replacing bin liners.
Responsibilities
* Work with your supervisor and other interested parties when the work schedule for the area you are assigned to is reviewed, to ensure the schedule is manageable and appropriate.
* Inform your supervisor if there are problems (e.g., floor coverings, surfaces) that would affect your ability to clean areas properly.
* Use correct colour coded mops, cloths, buckets, etc., assigned to each area; ensure items are cleaned, stored, or disposed of at the ends of your shift to prevent cross infection.
* Report deteriorating product quality or substitute products; ensure only chemicals provided by the Trust are used and used as trained.
* Use machinery/equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, ovens) safely to avoid injury; report faults promptly; keep equipment clean; change vacuum bags regularly; use safety signs and circuit breakers when appropriate.
* Store cleaning materials and equipment securely; report any security concerns or unlocked storerooms at the start of your shift.
* Dispose of general or domestic waste, recyclables and clinical waste correctly; report incidents of incorrect waste segregation or disposal.
Food Services
* Assist with the regeneration process of cook/chill meals by taking and recording temperatures prior to placing in the regeneration oven and starting the cook cycle.
* Prepare soup, gravy and custard for patient meals; be responsible for the whole regeneration process including final temperature checks and plating for service by clinical staff at Thurrock, Rochford and all North of the Trust sites.
* Ensure oven gloves and cloths are used and laundered regularly; be responsible for serving and clearing meals where applicable; clean crockery and cutlery used for patient meals.
Laundry Service
* Wash, dry and finish patient clothing, duvet covers, duvets and curtains to required standards; re-process or Iron items not meeting standard as needed.
* Label patient personal items; keep dirty/soiled items separate from clean items to minimize cross infection; place finished items in the agreed area; keep laundry clean and tidy.
* Complete cleaning checklist to evidence tasks; ensure laundering machinery (washing machines, tumble dryers) are kept clean and report faults to the supervisor promptly.
Portering
* Carry out routine tasks including delivery of pharmacy boxes, medical records, clean linen, food and general stores; collect dirty linen and waste; obtain signatures for items as required.
* Support the maintenance of public areas, sorting and delivering mail where applicable; perform ad-hoc tasks such as transporting patients with nursing staff at Basildon MHU, handling medical gases and specimens as directed.
* Ensure medical gas supplies are maintained for in-patient wards; decant and deliver liquid nitrogen with defects and cryogenic levels reported; operate the electro-hydraulic waste compactor with training; attend fire calls as per Trust procedure and provide assistance to the fire brigade when required.
* Assist with gritting and snow clearance during severe weather; keep site and waste areas clean and tidy; assist with vehicle access and site safety as needed.
