Assistant Psychologist - Adult Learning Disability Services (FTC)

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Assistant Psychologist to work with the Psychology Team in our Community Support Team (CST) for adults with a learning disability.

You would be joining a friendly and well-established team of Psychologists who provide psychological interventions as part of a multi-disciplinary community team.

The post will require you to work under the supervision of a registered Psychologist to complete psychological assessments and interventions.

The Psychology Team are passionate about their work and have developed new initiatives to be responsive in meeting the needs of those using the service; this post will continue to support their implementation and evaluation, providing opportunities to contribute to ongoing service development.

The LD Psychology Team is part of a strong and progressive Division of Psychology and Psychological Therapies (DP&PT), whilst being embedded in the multi-disciplinary teams of the LD CST. The post will therefore offer opportunities for multi-disciplinary practice, and progression of experience and skill as an Assistant Psychologist.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist who is motivated to support people with learning disabilities to live their best life.


Main duties of the job

To support and enhance the psychological care of clients receiving a service from Psychologists working within Adult Learning Disability Services, Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust.

To work across all sectors of care, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed by a qualified clinical psychologist and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. To assist in the clinically related administration, audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

This post is working specifically within the Adult Learning Disabilities Community Support Team; We would be seeking a candidate with significant skills and experience in this specialised area.

It is Trust policy that for posts that are for a time limited period, applicants who are currently employed by an NHS organisation will only be appointed on a secondment basis and should have approval from their line manager this is possible before applying. Applicants who are not employed by an NHS organisation, will receive a fixed term contract.

Person Specification


Attainment/ Qualifications

* Good honours degree in Psychology (2i or above)
* Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS


Experience

* Previous experience working as an Assistant Psychologist in a related clinical setting
* Previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and complex additional needs
* Experience of working with service users, carers, and staff teams
* Experience of working in a MDT
* Experience of specialist assessments for intellectual disabilities and/or autism for psychological needs
* Experience of working in a range of clinical settings with different client groups
* Experience of working through remote platforms such as video calling and telephone


Knowledge & Skills

* An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health and learning disabilities or those requiring the intervention of Psychological Services
* Good written communication skills, with the ability to tailor these to varying contexts
* Ability to process text, set up and use databases and spreadsheets
* Experience of using standard psychometric tests


Personal

* Positive and respectful attitude towards people with learning disabilities and mental health problems


Other

* Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post
* Flexibility to work into different specialist areas as required by service demands
* Must be able to work remotely through various platforms such as video calling and telephone
