Director of Corporate Landlord and Economic Development

💼 Salary: £98,389 – £108,698 (SLMG1)

Location: Nottingham City Council, Loxley House

🏡 Hybrid Working: 2 - 3 days per week in the office


Lead the strategic management of Nottingham’s corporate property portfolio while driving economic growth and development across the city.


About the Role

Nottingham City Council is seeking a strategic, visionary, and ambitious leader to take on the role of Director of Corporate Landlord and Economic Development. This senior position offers the opportunity to shape and deliver the Council’s Corporate Landlord model and drive the city’s Economic Growth Strategy, ensuring Nottingham’s property assets and economic initiatives create lasting impact.


You will lead a diverse portfolio including Property and Strategic Assets, Building Services, Facilities Management, and Economic Development, championing innovation, compliance, and value-for-money across all services. This is a high-profile role with direct influence on Council Plan priorities, major strategic decisions, and outcomes that affect the city and its residents.


Key Responsibilities

* Strategic Leadership: Provide clear direction and robust oversight of Corporate Landlord and Economic Development services, building high-performing, empowered teams.
* Corporate Landlord Function: Develop, implement, and continually improve the Council’s asset management approach, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and alignment with organisational priorities.
* Economic Development: Lead delivery of Nottingham’s Economic Growth agenda, fostering investment, job creation, and sustainable prosperity.
* Portfolio & Asset Management: Oversee commercial, operational, and investment property portfolios to maximise returns and meet strategic objectives.
* Governance & Decision Making: Provide expert advice, rigorous options appraisals, and maintain transparency in all strategic decisions.
* Innovation & Sustainability: Drive continuous improvement, champion environmentally sustainable practices, and embed innovation across services.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Develop strong working relationships with local, regional, and national partners, promoting the Council’s vision, values, and priorities.


Person Specification

We are seeking candidates with a proven record of success in senior leadership roles in complex organisations who demonstrate:

Technical Expertise

* MRICS qualification with relevant post-qualification experience.
* Extensive experience leading property management functions, strategic asset management, and facilities management.
* Knowledge and practical experience of the Corporate Landlord model.
* Experience delivering high-value asset disposals and optimising commercial returns.
* Understanding of economic development interventions and strategies to accelerate growth.

Vision, Strategy & Delivery

* Proven ability to translate vision into actionable goals with measurable outcomes.
* Track record of building organisational reputation and inspiring high performance.
* Financial and commercial acumen with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Leadership & People

* Experience in leading and motivating large, diverse teams to deliver exceptional results.
* Skilled in workforce planning, resilience, and succession management.
* Strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion at every level.

Change, Innovation & Collaboration

* Experience leading large-scale change programmes and embedding continuous improvement cultures.
* Strong partnership-building skills across public, private, and voluntary sectors.
* Political awareness and ability to work effectively with elected members.

Additional Information

* This is a politically restricted post under Section 2(1)(c) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
* Occasional work outside normal hours and travel may be required.
