Role Summary
Location: Alfreton
Salary: £36,000 to £45,000

We’re looking for a driven Structural Design Engineer to join our Clients’ Alfreton team – someone with the curiosity and skill to shape projects from concept through to delivery across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, residential, life science, education, retail, hospitality, sports and leisure. You’ll take ownership of detailed design to meet with design and construction programmes, working closely with other disciplines to coordinate information and ensure seamless integration across the project team. You’ll be part of a team working on some of the most complex and compelling buildings.
Responsibilities
* Carrying out structural surveys of building/desk studies and providing initial advice on any issues that may arise
* Preparing conceptual and outline designs for structural schemes with support of the wider team
* Preparing detailed design calculations to Eurocode and relevant design guidance notes using relevant 3D software packages
* Preparing detailed design drawings and specifications for tender purposes
* Responding to client requests for information
* Supporting the production of construction information for issue to contractors
* Visiting sites during the construction phase to monitor progress and provide advice to contractors
* Day‑to‑day support to colleagues from other disciplines within the office
* Attending team meetings with both internal and external disciplines
* Opportunity over time to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as professional skills develop, and supported towards chartership through IStructE/ICE
Required Skills
* Experience of structural design in concrete, steel and timber structures, as well as experience in other structural materials
* Experience of working with Eurocode and other local design guidance
* Knowledge and interest in sustainable design and embodied carbon evaluation
* A strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, combined with practical understanding of buildings and construction
* A desire to work constructively in a team, finding holistic building design solutions
* A good understanding of multidisciplinary requirements into coordinated solutions
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Computer literate with knowledge of design and analysis programmes
* Understanding of the health & safety regulations and designer’s responsibilities
Qualifications and Experience
* A good degree in Engineering
* Experience, competency and flexibility to rise to challenging situations and take on responsibility appropriate to their capability
* At least 3 years’ experience in the area of Structural Engineering
