Job Description
Workplace Classification: Hybrid - This position does not require full-time onsite presence. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team: GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT software solutions for motorsports, leveraging cloud infrastructure and software standards. Our team collaborates with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure competitive success in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar racing.
The Role
The Staff Software Engineer provides both technical leadership and software development. This experienced role involves designing scalable cloud systems, leading architecture development, and contributing hands-on to projects. The position focuses on aerodynamics systems design, supporting GM Motorsports' race-day performance and vehicle development.
Responsibilities
* Lead development of GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis.
* Design and lead solution architectures, gaining team consensus.
* Focus on modern application design, modular frameworks, and loosely connected systems integration.
* Collaborate with the aerodynamics team to identify and implement value-added solutions.
* Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth delivery milestones.
* Manage Scrum story delivery, including playbooks, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
* Support team collaboration and maintain self-managed reliability in project delivery.
Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
* Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
* Experience with full stack application design and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* At least 5 years of microservices development experience.
* At least 2 years of web services design and development.
* Knowledge of containers (Kubernetes, Docker), DevOps, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
Preferred
* Master's degree in a technical discipline.
* Exposure to aerodynamics engineering, AI & Machine Learning, VR frameworks, data streaming tech, cross-platform development, UI/UX design, team leadership, and system architecture.
