Junior Sister/Charge Nurse – St George Ward, National Spinal Injuries Centre

Would you like to work for a world-renowned specialist national centre for people with spinal cord injury – a centre that is life changing for everyone who comes into contact with it?

We are looking for dynamic and forward-thinking Band 6 to work either on St George Ward, for patients who are undergoing rehabilitation.

With experience in rehabilitation. Ideal candidates must be self driven, energised, and always strive to provide a high standard of nursing care. Their philosophy should be that the patient must come first.

Self-awareness, strong interpersonal skills, and a proactive approach to professional development are also essential. Looking to the future, the Trust will support those individuals that want to challenge themselves and become the leaders of the profession.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in unit management and will have the opportunity to develop management skills. You must have excellent communication, motivation, teaching and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

1. Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct (Ensures working colleagues also act in accordance with Code of Conduct), and within the principles of the scope of Professional Practice and ensures other members of the team also work within these.
2. Supervises the care delivered by the nursing team.
3. Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives.
4. Undertakes the nursing assessment of the patient including risk assessments eg Tissue viability, falls, triage, rapid assessment.
5. Ensures plans of care for patients are written and updated as appropriate
6. Maintains absolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records and also inter-personal issues with colleagues.

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

16. 1st Level Registered General Nurse
17. Evidence of further continued professional development
18. Mentorship programme or equivalent teaching qualification

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

19. Specialist requirements – a clear interest in spinal cord injury and/or surgical nursing
20. Able to contribute to the development of students, nurses and oneself
21. Able to contribute to develop the workplace as a learning environment
22. Previous experience of leading change in a clinical environment

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

23. Understanding of the issues pertaining to clinical risk management
24. IT/Computer Skills
