1:1 Teaching Assistant – Mainstream Primary – Poole, Dorset

Are you a calm, patient and dedicated individual with experience supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
GSL Education are currently recruiting a full-time 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a mainstream primary school in Poole, Dorset, starting in September 2025. This role involves working closely with a child requiring additional support due to SEMH needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop in a positive, nurturing environment. You’ll play a vital role in their progress, confidence, and ability to thrive in the classroom.
A school tour is available for shortlisted candidates before progressing to the formal interview stage, which will be held over the coming weeks.
1:1 Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs throughout the school day
Assist with classroom tasks, ensuring the pupil is engaged and supported in their learning
Implement strategies to manage behaviour and support emotional regulation
Liaise closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals where required
Support the pupil in developing social skills and building positive relationships
Maintain detailed records of progress, behaviour, and daily achievements
Qualifications for One-to-one TA:
Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs is essential
Experience working with primary-aged children in a nursery, coaching role, or childcare setting or as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant is essential
CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare is desirable but not mandatory.
A degree in Education, Psychology or a similar field.
Strong interpersonal skills and emotional resilience
A calm, adaptable and encouraging nature
Ability to build trust and rapport with children and staff
Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
