Energy Supply Manager
Leading Energy Flexibility Innovator (Edinburgh-based)
Are you passionate about the future of sustainable energy and want to be at the forefront of the UK's transition to a smarter, greener grid? Denholm's client, a pioneering leader in the flexible energy sector, is seeking an experienced Energy Supply Manager to join their expert team based in central Edinburgh.
This is a rare opportunity to join a business that is transforming how electricity is produced, consumed, and traded in the UK-connecting flexible energy assets to critical national and local energy markets, and helping accelerate decarbonisation.
About the Company
Denholm's client is the UK's leading provider of demand-side response (DSR) and flexibility services, integrating distributed energy assets into electricity and gas markets. Through cutting-edge systems and deep technical insight, they enable commercial and industrial energy users to monetise their flexible capacity by participating in key markets like the Balancing Mechanism, National Grid ESO flexibility schemes, and wholesale trading.
As a licensed electricity and gas supplier, the company plays a crucial role in grid stability and the decarbonisation of power, heat, and transport. Backed by a major infrastructure investment firm, the organisation continues to innovate at the intersection of technology, regulation, and sustainability.
The Role: Energy Supply Manager
Reporting to the Head of Supply and Balancing Services, the Energy Supply Manager will lead the company's electricity and gas supply operations, supporting the growth and integration of a broad portfolio of flexible assets.
This highly cross-functional role blends technical expertise, commercial insight, and regulatory awareness, requiring strong stakeholder engagement both internally and externally-including Ofgem, National Grid, DSOs, and commercial energy partners.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the registration and onboarding of new power and gas supply assets.
* Lead implementation of Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement and ensure ongoing compliance.
* Act as a technical advisor in client and partner discussions, especially around grid codes, generation licence exemptions, and non-commodity charges.
* Support contract negotiation for new supply agreements.
* Maintain oversight of Balancing Mechanism Units (BMUs) and ensure regulatory reporting requirements are met.
* Serve as the internal authority on regulatory obligations and industry codes.
* Represent the company at industry working groups, and lead responses to consultations.
* Collaborate with business development and strategy teams to shape market access strategy for flexible assets.
What We're Looking For
* Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar energy sector role.
* Strong knowledge of UK energy markets, codes, and regulatory frameworks.
* Demonstrable experience in multi-stakeholder project delivery, legal contract review, and compliance.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* High level of technical comprehension, attention to detail, and organisational ability.
* Comfortable working independently in a dynamic and evolving market landscape.
* Knowledge of DSR and energy flexibility markets.
* Understanding of flexible assets such as battery storage, CHP, distributed generation, or large flexible loads.
* Familiarity with sectors such as district heating, horticulture, food & drink, data centres, or merchant generation.
Personal Attributes
* Proactive self-starter with a strong sense of ownership.
* Collaborative team player, confident in cross-functional environments.
* Curious and engaged-motivated to stay ahead of market and regulatory developments.
* Able to translate complex technical issues for varied audiences.
* Based in central Edinburgh with a hybrid working model available.
* Superb modern office space overlooking Edinburgh Castle.
* Culture: Professional, innovative, flexible, and fun-valuing collaboration, autonomy, and purpose.
What's on Offer
* Competitive salary (discussed upon application)
* 30 days' annual leave (plus 4 public holidays)
* Pension scheme (7% employer contribution, 4% minimum employee contribution)
* Supportive and highly skilled team environment
* Opportunity to make real impact in decarbonisation and energy innovation
