Overview
This role is ideal for someone who values continuity of care, enjoys providing gentle encouragement, and is committed to supporting independence in a respectful and dignified way. The caregiver will provide high-quality personal care and support in the client’s home, assisting with daily routines, personal hygiene, companionship, and outings while ensuring a safe, respectful, and compassionate approach to care and building a trusting relationship.
Tasks include monitoring overall well-being and reporting concerns, following agreed strategies to encourage participation in daily routines, prompting for medication, and providing support while the client’s husband attends social activities.
Responsibilities
* Personal Care: Assist with morning washing, dressing, and personal hygiene; apply prescribed skin ointment and monitor skin condition; support with bedtime routine and ensure comfort overnight; assist with bathing, hair wash, and catheter bag changes.
* Household Support: Change and wash bed linen; assist with light domestic tasks as needed.
* Meal Assistance: Support with lunch preparations and ensure hydration.
* Companionship & Outings: Accompany the client on outings (e.g., every Thursday for activities such as lunch, coffee, or visits like feeding ducks); engage in meaningful conversation and encourage social interaction.
* Support & Communication: Monitor wellbeing, report concerns, prompt for medication, and maintain clear communication with the client and family.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in personal care (formal or informal).
* Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to care.
* Good communication skills and ability to build trust with the client.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work set shifts.
* Full UK driving license with business class insurance (for outings).
* Previous experience in elderly care or as a personal assistant with Dementia.
* Desirable: Basic knowledge of catheter care (training can be provided).
Compliance & Conditions
* This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
* All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that the candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
* Although part-time, the role is legitimate and requires submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
* Wages will be paid on a four-weekly/monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
