Back-end Infrastructure Engineer (AWS/CDK)
London - 12 Month contract - £390 pd Inside Ir35
We are looking for an infrastructure-focused SDE II to join our Edge Platform team. You will build and scale the globally distributed entry point for our streaming API, handling massive traffic, authentication, and network routing. You will join an active project with some established designs but high remaining ambiguity.
Key Responsibilities
* Scale Infrastructure: Design and deploy backend services using AWS-native technologies.
* Operational Excellence: Lead safe change management, availability protections, and alarm tuning.
* AI Integration: Use internal AI tools for debugging, design, and high-productivity coding while strictly verifying all outputs.
* Independent Ownership: Drive medium-complexity features from concept to production with minimal guidance.
Technical Requirements
* Strong AWS/IaC: Expert-level AWS CDK and core services (EC2, NLB, Lambda, DynamoDB).
* Networking: Deep knowledge of DNS, HTTP/TLS, and load balancing.
* Back-end Coding: Proficient in Java and TypeScript (no front-end required).
* Operations: Experience with production monitoring, incident response, and Linux/UNIX.
What We Look For
* Self-Driven: Comfortable in ambiguous environments and quick to learn.
* Detail-Oriented: High standards for code quality and a \"dive deep\" mindset.
* Collaborative: Works effectively within a 9-person team but owns work independently
Process: 3-stage interview focusing on infrastructure and operational depth.
Core Focus: This is an infrastructure-heavy role. Success depends on your mastery of AWS networking and deployment mechanics over standard application development.
