Finance Administrator

St Albans

An established and growing organisation is seeking a Finance Administrator to join its finance team. This role is ideal for someone with strong finance administration experience who enjoys working across multiple financial processes and supporting operational finance activities.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of finance operations, supporting accounts payable, payroll, credit control, and financial reporting. The position also provides exposure to broader finance responsibilities and the opportunity to support senior finance leadership.

Key Responsibilities

* Take ownership of the purchase ledger, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and on time
* Reconcile and analyse supplier invoices, resolving queries and discrepancies
* Manage and maintain financial data within Sage
* Prepare and support weekly, mid-month, and month-end payment runs
* Oversee supplier payments, remittances, and approvals
* Handle international invoices, ensuring correct VAT treatment and compliance
* Maintain petty cash records and oversee recurring payments and direct debits
* Review supplier contracts, service agreements, and purchase orders for financial accuracy
* Process end-to-end payroll, ensuring statutory compliance
* Support credit control and review aged debt
* Produce financial reports, payment summaries, and sales documentation
* Assist with month-end processes and management reporting
* Maintain organised, audit-ready financial records
* Identify opportunities for process improvements and system efficiencies
* Provide occasional support across office and commercial functions where required
* Deputise for the Finance Manager when necessary, ensuring continuity of finance operations

Skills & Experience

* Finance or accounting qualification (e.g., AAT) or equivalent practical experience
* Proven experience in a finance or accounts administration role
* Strong experience in accounts payable / purchase ledger and payment processing
* Payroll processing experience (ideally using Sage)
* Excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy
* Strong communication skills when dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders
* Good financial analysis skills and commercial awareness
