Commercial Contract Manager
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Contract Manager to join us and take ownership of key contracts with the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, ensuring robust governance, performance, compliance, and commercial control.
As our Commercial Contract Manager, you will be the primary commercial interface for two major service contracts:
* Repairs & Maintenance – reactive repairs, compliance works, voids, minor works, variations, and subcontracted activity
* Corporate Cleaning – contract compliance, KPI delivery, and rectification management
You will lead contract governance, performance reporting, commercial analysis, and cost management, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and in line with contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the day‑to‑day commercial lead and main client contact for LBBD.
* Lead contract governance, including meetings, action logs, risks, change control and documentation.
* Manage KPI frameworks, evidence, dashboards and monthly/quarterly reporting.
* Analyse performance and cost drivers, lead root‑cause reviews and agree corrective actions.
* Maintain robust audit trails for KPIs, payments and contractual decisions.
* Oversee compliance requirements (H&S, safeguarding, data protection, quality standards).
* Support supplier and subcontractor performance management and service reviews.
Commercial & Cost Management:
* Validate payment claims and invoices in line with contract mechanisms.
* Support cost‑to‑serve analysis and identify variances against budget/forecast.
* Price and evaluate change requests, quantify impacts and support negotiations.
* Produce commercial insight on unit costs, trends, benchmarking and efficiencies.
Quality Assurance & Customer Focus:
* Deliver quality audits/inspections for repairs and cleaning services.
* Use customer feedback and complaints to drive service improvements.
* Promote a positive, solution‑focused, customer‑centred culture.
Mobilisation, Improvement & Change:
* Support mobilisation activities, KPI baselining and reporting set‑up.
* Lead or coordinate service improvement and technology initiatives.
* Maintain awareness of best practice, legislation and standards in housing repairs and soft FM.
About You
Essential Experience
* Strong background in contract management within housing repairs/maintenance or FM/soft FM
* Experience working with local authority clients
* Proven track record managing KPI frameworks and performance improvement
* Experience with commercial mechanisms: invoice validation, variations, change control, supplier management
* Strong analytical capability and data‑driven decision‑making
Essential Skills & Knowledge
* Excellent understanding of contract governance, compliance, and audit disciplines
* Ability to assess and communicate cost impacts, cost‑to‑serve, and variance analysis
* Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
* Confident user of Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and performance reporting tools
Desirable
* Experience with schedule‑of‑rates contracting (e.g., NHF)
* Experience in mobilisation or transformation programmes
* Relevant qualifications (CIPS, IACCM/WorldCC, project management)
* A law degree
Working arrangements
Salary: Up to £60, (Permanent)
Location: Dagenham (Hybrid – 3 days office-based)
Business Unit: Commercial & Business Development
Reports to: Commercial Services Lead
Contract: Permanent, Full‑Time (36 hours per week)
