University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a Senior Finance Apprentice role within its Finance Team, supporting a £1bn+ high‑performing NHS Foundation Trust and its subsidiary companies.
The role will support junior accountant duties—including month‑end activities, supplier payments, invoice issuance, budget manager queries, account reconciliations, and financial data analysis in Excel—to support day‑to‑day financial operations.
The apprentice will study a Level 4 Finance Apprenticeship (AAT Level 4 or CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting) and gain practical experience in a large, professional finance function.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
* Assist with day‑to‑day core financial operations, including month‑end activities, supplier payments, invoice raising, budget manager queries, reconciling control accounts, and using Excel to analyse and present financial data.
* Support the subsidiary finance team with comprehensive accounting support to the three subsidiary companies with a combined turnover of approximately £215m.
* Work collaboratively with experienced finance professionals while managing multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines.
* Maintain accurate and timely production of information, follow procedures and guidelines, and demonstrate independence, initiative and strong communication skills.

Essential Criteria
* Capable of attaining a Level 4 apprenticeship.
* Level 3 or equivalent experience in finance.
* Previous experience in a finance environment.
* Good standard of secondary education with literacy and numeracy skills demonstrable to GCSE level or equivalent.
* Ability to effectively cope with a variety of ongoing tasks/issues simultaneously.
* Clear and concise verbal and written communication at all levels.
* Ability to work to deadlines and to produce accurate, timely information.
* Professional follow‑up of procedures and guidelines.
* Can work alone or as part of a team.
Desirable Criteria
* Courses or further study that demonstrate evidence of personal development.
* NHS Finance experience.
* Knowledge of Oracle financial systems.
* MS Access experience.
* Experience of cash forecasting.
