Job Description

The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve, so welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds. We also welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share.

The team you will join is the Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS). We manage important Environmental Monitoring systems and datasets.

You’ll join a multi-disciplinary team supporting and learning from colleagues while analysing and improving data that underpins our work. The Technical Advisor helps manage these systems and data and provides support to users. You will fulfil a multi-purpose role, working on our Water Quality systems and data, but will be expected to support other systems and data as needed. You will work closely with team members and can expect to be involved in any of the following:

* Set up and manage users
* Supporting users and resolving issues, especially when we move to our new My Environment application
* Updating, improvements and maintaining datasets.
* Responding to internal and external data requests.
* Supporting our system improvement and upgrade projects

Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment.

You’ll have access to our great benefits package, including generous annual leave, excellent pension and flexible working arrangements. We also offer extensive training to develop your career, including apprenticeships.

Experience/skills Required

Experience of working with large complex datasets.

Someone who is willing to develop and learn new technical skills and apply these skills across our monitoring data and systems.

A motivated, organised, friendly and helpful person with an eye for detail, who is comfortable working in a dispersed team environment.

Someone who is proactive and enjoys solving problems.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others and provide excellent customer service.

Other desirable experience / skills

* Experience of using and managing environmental monitoring data systems
* Experience of using PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R
* A working knowledge of water quality monitoring

Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England and have a presence there. We offer hybrid home/office working but some travel is expected for meetings.

We expect to hold interviews via MS Teams towards the end of December / beginning of January. We’ll confirm interview dates for candidates invited to interview.

An apprenticeship is available for the role for the successful candidate.
