Overview
The Environment Agency needs a Marine Water Quality Officer to support our technical specialists in Operations Catchment Services. You will apply technical expertise in marine environments, modelling and data analysis to support evidence‑based decisions, particularly in evaluating the impact of discharges on water quality for key areas such as Nuclear New Build, major infrastructure projects and the Water Industry National Environment Programme. This role also involves modelling bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries.
Key Responsibilities
* Review reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Use data to inform water quality models.
* Apply sound records management principles.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work, and elevate challenges when needed.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use initiative to contribute to the work of the team and the wider organisation.
* Support incident response duties, with training and flexible arrangements available.
Qualifications and Experience
A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is expected; knowledge of water quality and marine environment is desirable and you may be working towards professional membership. You should be comfortable working virtually, be able to travel for occasional national meetings, and be willing to undertake training and development opportunities.
Required Skills
* Data analysis skills and experience with modelling software.
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS and specialist packages such as Mike or Cormix.

Location and Working Arrangements
