Join Our Team as a Modern Apprentice with Active Schools Dundee! Leisure & Culture Dundee, in partnership with Enable Works and Sport Scotland, invites applications for our Modern Apprenticeship post. Funding for this position is exclusively available for young people with a recognised disability.
This Modern Apprenticeship offers paid employment for a young person aged 16-24, residing in Dundee, with a disability, interested in pursuing a career in sports. Disabilities may include physical, learning, or sensory impairments, such as ADHD, Dyslexia/Dyscalculia, Neurodivergence, Autism, Dyspraxia, or Visual/Hearing impairments.
Training will be provided on-the-job within the Active Schools Team. The successful candidate will be expected to follow health and safety protocols and attend all training sessions. The role combines on-the-job learning with support, leading to a nationally and industry-recognised qualification. The successful applicant will be employed on a fixed-term 18-month contract, working 25 hours per week, and will work towards achieving the SCQF Level 6 Sport Coaching qualification.

Responsibilities
The Modern Apprentice will assist the Active Schools Co-ordinator in providing high-quality sports and physical activity opportunities for children and young people across various schools. They will support the Active Schools team by assisting with coaching sessions, leadership programmes, administrative tasks, event delivery, and promoting active participation in sport. During the 18-month apprenticeship, they will undertake an SCQF Level 6 qualification in Sports Coaching, along with other relevant awards and qualifications.
The Individual
Applicants should hold National 4 or 5 qualifications (or equivalent) and demonstrate a strong interest in working within a sporting environment. They must be willing and able to complete an SCQF Level 6 Sports Coaching qualification within the specified timeframe. Relevant experience, whether through education, volunteering, or part-time work, is highly valued. Effective communication skills for engaging with both children and adults are essential.
Candidates should be confident using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint. Good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines with support, and strong written and verbal communication are required. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, capable of working independently and as part of a team. Flexibility is essential, as some evening and weekend work may be required. A positive, proactive attitude and strong interpersonal skills are also important.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment.
