Position Description

The Vice President, Human Resources is a strategic executive leader responsible for shaping and executing a forward‑thinking people strategy that supports the hospital’s mission, culture, and workforce needs. This role drives initiatives across talent strategy, organizational development, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance while ensuring alignment with system‑wide HR policies. As the senior‑most HR leader and key member of the executive leadership team, the VP Human Resources builds trusted relationships across the organization to foster a high‑performing, inclusive, and resilient culture.


Reporting Relationship

This position reports jointly to the President and the Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer of JHM. It collaborates with enterprise HR Centers of Excellence (Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Employee Relations) and leads a local HR team supporting 3,200 employees.


Principal Accountabilities


Strategic Leadership

* Serve as a key member of the hospital’s executive team, advising on workforce strategy, culture, and operational execution.
* Lead the annual HR strategy aligned with organizational goals, particularly in culture, leadership development, talent management, and workforce planning.
* Champion initiatives that foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high‑engagement environment.
* Serve as a thought partner to the JHACH President and senior leadership on employee relations, change leadership, and organizational effectiveness.


People & Culture

* Build and evolve a workplace culture grounded in trust, equity, performance, and psychological safety.
* Lead change management efforts to support major transformations and employee alignment.
* Guide leadership development, coaching, and succession planning to build a strong internal talent pipeline.
* Champion a culture of engagement through open communication, inclusivity, and accountability, tracking progress via engagement KPIs.


HR Operations & Compliance

* Ensure HR practices are fully compliant with local, state, and federal regulations (ADA, FMLA, EEOC, FLSA).
* Manage local implementation of programs in compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and HRIS, ensuring effective communication and transparency.


Employee Relations

* Provide advice to administration, managers, and supervisors on employee relations matters.
* Make oral and written presentations to educate managers on legal requirements.
* Investigate complaints of employment/labor law or policy violations through interviews and document searches.


Data‑Driven Decision Making

* Leverage workforce data and analytics to drive insights on retention, engagement, and workforce planning.
* Partner with enterprise analytics teams to provide dashboards and actionable insights to leadership.


Experience and Qualifications

* Bachelor’s required in Human Resources or related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
* Minimum of ten years of progressive HR leadership, ideally within complex, matrixed healthcare or academic institutions.
* Experience in a hospital environment required; pediatric hospital experience desirable.
* Proven ability to build and lead high‑performing HR teams and partner effectively across functions.
* Strong business acumen, emotional intelligence, and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
* Demonstrated experience in organizational development, labor relations, and change management.
* Deep knowledge of employment law, HRIS, compensation, and talent development best practices.
* Skilled in conflict resolution, executive coaching, and strategic workforce planning.


Salary Range

Minimum /hour – Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
