Do you have an interest in physiotherapy? We are looking for an enthusiastic, self‑motivated physiotherapy assistant practitioner. You will be based at Harefield Hospital as an important member of a well‑established and highly respected physiotherapy department.
The role involves assisting in treating adults following cardiothoracic surgery and transplantation which will regularly involve the use of rehabilitation equipment and hoists.
We welcome applications from people who do not hold a physiotherapy qualification. After working for GSTT for at least one year, there may be an opportunity to apply for a physiotherapy apprentice position.
This person will need very good organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a busy team. It is essential to be self‑driven, use initiative and have very good communication skills, both with other professionals and with patients and their carers. Good IT / word processing skills are essential to be able to carry out administration and clerical duties.
There will be regular supervision, training and support from highly skilled therapists to address learning needs and personal development. They will be expected to work closely with the other members of the MDT, especially the nursing staff.

Responsibilities
1. The post holder will be rotational between the inpatient physiotherapy teams predominantly providing mobility practice, exercise sessions and more complex rehabilitation to patients. They will be responsible for supporting the Cardiothoracic and Transplantation Therapy team (CT&Tx) in the provision of a patient‑centred service, in an efficient and cost‑effective way. This may be a rotational role.
2. The post holder will assist in the provision of care to patients, supported and supervised by senior therapists.
3. The post holder will carry out clinical tasks to support the CT&Tx therapy team, such as supervision of daily individual rehabilitation delegated by qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability, as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skills.
4. The post holder will carry out clinical assessments independently, within their Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner competency framework.
5. To gain the required knowledge and skills in the relevant technical, clinical and organisational procedures, and to maintain those skills working under the Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner Competency programme under the supervision of Specialist therapy teams.
6. The post holder will continue individualised rehabilitation and developmental programmes with patients and progress and review these with support from qualified therapists as appropriate.
