Working hours 4 out of 5 days Monday to Friday 13:30‑21:30 (7.5 working hours per day, 30 minute unpaid break) and Saturdays 08:00‑15:30 (7 working hours, 30 minute unpaid break). The allocated day off during the week is to be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate. Working weeks: Term time plus 3 weeks school holidays (42 weeks total). The post holder may work flexibly up to a maximum of 48 hours per week, including early morning, late evening or cover when needed. There are six Parents Evenings and two Open Evenings per year when all Premises staff work until 10:00 pm. Additional hours taken back as time in lieu or overtime.

Holidays 22 days per annum + 8 bank holidays + 2.5 additional College closure days. Five or more years' continuous service grants an extra 5 days annual leave. Leave year runs 1 April‑31 March. Term time employees receive salary based on term weeks employed, plus normal annual leave and public holiday entitlement prorated. Salary paid in 12 equal monthly instalments, including leave and holiday pay.
Pension West Yorkshire Pension Fund – current employer contribution rate 21.5%. Opting in the College pays £6,500.00 into your pension each year plus salary. Pension includes a Death in Service Grant of 3 × your annual salary. Contact HR for details.

About Greenhead College
Greenhead College is situated on a welcoming campus close to Huddersfield town centre, adjacent to Greenhead Park. Approximately 2,900 students attend the College studying predominantly A Level courses across 35 subjects. The College has received several accolades, including the Further Education Mental Health Gold Award, an OFSTED Outstanding rating and the Further Education College of the Year at the Educate North Awards.
The College has recently completed a new four-storey science building (opened November 2023) and continues to invest in facilities as part of an ambitious capital investment plan.
Position: Skilled Site Assistant (Maintenance)
The Skilled Site Assistant will support the upkeep, safety and smooth running of the College estate. The role is hands‑on and requires strong practical skills, keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of IT, Estates & Operations, Premises Manager and the Wider Premises Team to maintain College buildings and grounds to a high standard and comply with statutory requirements. Key responsibilities include
Perform routine maintenance of building systems, joinery, plumbing and electrical work.
Inspect and maintain fire safety, security systems and emergency exits.
Record and report maintenance activities in the book of maintenance.
Provide assistance for special events such as Parents Evenings and Open Evenings.
Respond to ad‑hoc maintenance requests and carry out small repairs.
Qualifications and experience
We are looking for a candidate with an NVQ Level 3 qualification, or equivalent experience, in a relevant trade such as joinery, plumbing or electrical work, and proven experience in a skilled maintenance or manual role. Essential requirements include
Strong knowledge of health and safety practices.
Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
Basic IT skills for record keeping and communication.
Positive, flexible and team‑oriented attitude.
Desirable but not essential (training will be provided)
Experience working in an educational environment.
Health and safety qualifications.
Experience with security systems.
