Salary: Up to £67,000 per annum

The role
We are looking for a Technical Specialist – Design for Additive Manufacturing to join our Engineering Design Group in Coventry. This role is an exciting opportunity to own, shape and grow the MTC’s Design for Additive Manufacturing offering and support the industrial adoption of Additive Manufacturing in the UK. It combines technical expertise, collaboration and innovation. You will help shape and deliver our technology strategy, provide technical guidance, and contribute to projects that make a real impact for our clients and partners.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership on projects and work packages (typically up to £1m), ensuring quality and timely delivery.
* Act as a role model by sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues, and supporting their development.
* Contribute to continuous improvement in how we deliver projects, including processes, tools, and ways of working.
* Work with colleagues across the MTC to build capability in Design for Additive Manufacturing, including developing a roadmap for future growth.
* Stay informed about emerging technologies and identify opportunities to bring new ideas into our work.
* Support the development of proposals and Collaborative R&D bids that strengthen our Design for Additive Manufacturing offering.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, members, and other stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver value.
What We’re Looking For
* Strong understanding of Design for Additive Manufacturing, with experience in advanced design tools (such as topology optimisation, generative design, and field‑driven engineering).
* Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes – particularly Laser Powder Bed Fusion – and experience with related pre‑and post‑processing techniques, including CNC machining and surface finishing.
* Experience leading technical aspects of large‑scale programmes (around £1m), including concept generation, detailed design, manufacturing, and validation.
* Ability to shape technology roadmaps and guide capability development projects.
* Understanding of traditional manufacturing processes (e.g., subtractive methods, casting) and how they complement additive approaches.
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across technical, project management, and business development teams.
* A commitment to supporting and mentoring others to build confidence and capability.
* Experience working in environments where following processes and policies is essential to maintaining confidentiality.
