Design Manager
What you will be doing
As a Design Manager, you will be part of the Management Team, overseeing projects from inception through to completion. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Design team and subcontracted designers, ensuring effective use of time and resources to meet budgets and delivery programmes.
Key responsibilities include:
* Implementation and monitoring of health, safety, and quality standards, ensuring all designs comply with relevant industry regulations and approved standards.
* Providing day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the Design Team and alliance staff.
* Leading the definition and implementation of training to ensure alignment with engineering standards.
* Ensuring timely delivery of designs on budget and meeting agreed service levels.
* Acting as an ambassador for the organisation, promoting and implementing company initiatives.
* Driving cultural change within the Design Teams, including minimising hazards during construction and operation.
* Managing multiple concurrent projects safely and within budget, facilitating internal and external review meetings.
* Identifying strategic technologies to improve project delivery and supporting innovation to develop new solutions and overcome technical challenges.
What you’ll bring
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience in the construction and design industry.
* An engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
* Strong design management experience, including the ability to influence client decisions.
* Management training, skills, and experience.
* Knowledge of SHEQ, industry standards, and legal requirements.
* Proficiency in IT applications, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
* Excellent communication skills, able to convey detailed technical information to a non-technical audience and transfer skills effectively.
* Ability to work in a hybrid model, with regular communication with construction and delivery teams based in the local office.
