Build Supervisor – Robotics – high tech scale-up, oxford

The company designs, manufactures and assembles autonomous logistics robots – these contain mechanical structural parts, telescopic vision systems, enclosures, batteries, etc
The company is well funded and has an enviable client base and order list. As part of this growth, it is seeking a build/assembly supervisor to manage the existing team, and ensure that as the team grows, it is capable of delivering production targets through training, multiskilling and bottleneck reductions.
What you will do
Reporting to the Production Manager and supporting an existing team of around 12 your time will be spent as follows:
50% of your time will be hands-on assembly of complex mechanical parts. Products are low volume and built by a multiskilled team in a specialist cell (not production line). The skill level required is high and precision parts experience is required.
The other 50% is spent ensuring assembly resources, including staff, are deployed effectively and efficiently in order to meet production targets.
* Training, guiding and supervising existing staff members
* Effective deployment of staff, team cohesion and motivation
* Getting things done/bottleneck reduction eg ensure kitting, quality and other issues do not hamper assembly
* Training and developing new staff members to ensure they become effective asap
* Be responsible for achieving KPI and metrics .
* Process improvement, work instructions, quality gateways
What you will need
Soft skills:

* Be firm, patient, be able to get things done, be able to represent the team’s interests but in a cooperative manner
* This is an agile environment with minimal structure /procedures. It is highly reliant on the skills and autonomy of technicians. As such you will be self-driving and be able to introduce working practices that represent best fit for the business.
Hard skills:
* You will have at least 2 years’ experience working in an innovative company and be able to demonstrate you have scaled an assembly operation and not just maintained/babysat existing
* Previous supervisory experience is required with evidence of coaching, training staff
* Have part assembly experience and be familiar in using mechanical assembly tools
