Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. We are seeking an experienced and driven Principal Building Control Surveyor to join our Housing, Development and Growth directorate. This senior role offers the chance to play a pivotal part in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused Building Control service for the council and partner authorities. Key Responsibilities: Support the Team Manager in managing the Building Control team’s delivery of services in accordance with legal obligations and council objectives. Act as deputy for the Team Manager, taking on leadership responsibilities when required. Assist in service planning, policy development, and implementation aligned with directorate goals. Provide expert guidance on building regulations, fire safety (particularly for high-rise buildings), inclusive design, and dangerous structures. Undertake inspections and assessments of construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. Support the management and development of a small team (approx. 5 FTE), including recruitment, training, and performance appraisals. Represent the council in regional and national technical forums, contributing to best practice and legislative change.
