Overview
Our Catering Team are recruiting for a reliable and organized team member to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the main hospital kitchens through various cleaning tasks, basic food preparation, and supporting the serving of patient meals ready for delivery to the ward.
Responsibilities
* Clean floors, work surfaces, furnishings, and related equipment manually and using machines.
* Clean crockery, cutlery, utensils, containers, and small-scale equipment manually and using machine washers.
* Assist cooks with basic food preparation and cooking.
* Communicate patient meal choices, dietary requirements, or service adaptations clearly and promptly.
* Count and collate menu choices from inpatients or staff delivery service, noting specific requirements and highlighting dietary alerts.
* Prepare and present ready-to-eat foods within the Catering department's remit.
* Follow internal workflows and use judgement to ensure adherence to safe systems of work, prioritising high-risk food preparation, allergen awareness, and cleaning protocols.
* Prepare and deliver ward stores and supplies to wards and departments.
* Clean and prepare ward food trolleys for meal service.
* Comply with food hygiene regulations regarding cleaning food service equipment and departmental cleanliness.
* Adhere to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points and Food Safety Management System protocols, ensuring completion of relevant paperwork.
* Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and follow Health and Safety regulations.
* Notify supervisors or relevant staff of faulty equipment, maintenance requirements, and requests for PPE/light equipment.
* Ensure building security measures are undertaken, such as locking doors and securing windows.
* Participate as a team member, including training new staff in work patterns and specific tasks.
* Operate cash register at the point of service.
* Store goods correctly and use stock on a rotational basis.
* Collaborate with the Department in Performance and Development Reviews.
* The role involves physical demands, including standing for long periods, lifting stock and supplies, manoeuvring waste bins, meal trolleys, and hot lockers with weights greater than 15kg frequently during shifts.
* After training, you may be asked to operate or clean a variety of specialized catering equipment, employing specific skills like using knives, mandolins, meat slicers, or industrial steamers.
* Work in a noisy, hot, and humid environment.
Requirements / Qualifications
* No previous catering environment experience is required, but applicants must be able to perform cleaning tasks, lift catering supplies (e.g., drums of oil), and adhere to food hygiene requirements.
* Full training will be provided for operating and cleaning specialised catering equipment and skills like using knives, mandolins, meat slicers, and industrial steamers.
* We support career development, and if the post-holder wishes to pursue a catering career, they can undertake a recognised catering apprenticeship as part of the role, learning skills such as prioritising high-risk food preparation, allergen awareness, and cleaning protocols.
* This is a bank position with comprehensive training for all departmental roles. After completing training, contractual hours may be offered based on the candidate.
