Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and compassionate Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our Pan Dorset Learning Disabilities Intensive Support Team (IST). This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, providing specialist assessment and intervention to individuals with complex needs, including behaviours that may challenge services. You will work closely with individuals, families, carers, support providers and partner agencies to promote independence, wellbeing and meaningful participation in daily life. The focus of the role is to support people to remain within their local communities and live fulfilling lives in environments that recognise their strengths and needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified Occupational Therapist or someone looking to develop experience within learning disability services.
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist, you will:
* Undertake holistic, person-centred occupational therapy assessments.
* Develop and implement strengths-based intervention plans.
* Support individuals to build skills in self-care, daily living, leisure and social participation.
* Work in a trauma-informed and Positive Behaviour Support framework.
* Deliver interventions in home and community settings.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment, formulation and care planning.
* Support families, carers and provider services to meet individuals' needs.
* Contribute to safe and sustainable community placements.
* Support transition planning and discharge pathways.
The ideal candidate will be:
* HCPC registered as an Occupational Therapist.
* Committed to person-centred and inclusive practice.
* Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Organised, reflective and motivated to learn.
* Confident communicating with individuals, families and professionals.
* Able to travel across Dorset as required.
Experience of working with people with learning disabilities through employment, student placements or lived experience would be advantageous.
Driving is essential for this role. You will be required to have a full and valid UK driving licence and to travel using your own vehicle on Trust business.
Person Specification
Knowledge, Skills and Training
* Diploma Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Awareness of Sensory integration, model of human occupation, Trauma informed approaches and Positive Behaviour Support.
* Experience of supporting people with a Learning Disability either through placement, previous job role or lived experience.
Job Specific Experience
* Demonstrates understanding and use of functional assessments and activity analysis within occupational therapy practice.
Information technology / Resources
* Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training.
* Demonstrable experience of using a range of word processing, internet and/or presentation software.
Business Travel
* Must be able to use own vehicle for travel whilst on Trust Business.
Additional requirements
* Demonstraitable skills in written and spoken English to a standard that enables post holder to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the role effectively.
* Evidence of teaching others presenting care plans to staff teams and carers.
