Job Title: Capability Manager
Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base)
Service Area: Service Delivery
Hours of Work: 37 Per week
What You’ll be doing:
Managing the skills portfolio required to deliver the services to operate & maintain Portsmouth Naval Base.
You will lead on new starter induction and early career coordination, providing a consistent and welcoming experience throughout the probation period. This includes developing effective processes and managing succession planning.
You will design and implement effective methods to optimise resource utilisation, while coordinating and monitoring all mandatory training requirements. Creating and maintaining a competency matrix to map the skills required for each role against the skills currently held within the team, enabling the identification of capability gaps.
You will proactively assess future skills needs based on departmental plans and asset management strategies, sourcing and coordinating external training where necessary to meet future requirements.
You’ll Have:
The ability to manage complex mini‑projects while effectively deploying resources, along with experience in leading a team to deliver successful outcomes.
You will have proven experience in developing workforce capability, including designing and delivering skill‑development initiatives and supporting strategic workforce planning to ensure projects are resourced with the right people at the right cost. You will also have experience creating efficient processes to optimise resource utilisation, building competency matrix’s that map required role skills against current team strengths to identify capability gaps.
