Welcome to Katharine House Hospice

At Katharine House Hospice, a charity founded on compassion, we believe everyone deserves dignity, comfort, and peace—especially at the end of life. Our Hospice at Home team delivers personalised care directly to patients in their own homes, offering both practical and emotional support. Unlike traditional care agencies, we prioritise continuity, building trusting relationships with patients and families to ensure meaningful, tailored care.

Our core values—respect, empathy, and integrity—are woven into everything we do. We're dedicated to making a difference in our community by offering holistic support to those who need it most.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support patients through significant moments with hands-on care and emotional reassurance. If you're passionate about compassionate, respectful care and want to join a skilled, supportive team that values every individual, we'd love to hear from you.

Purpose and Impact

As a Hospice at Home Healthcare Assistant, you'll create an environment of comfort and compassion, helping patients remain in the familiarity of home. Your role includes personal care and daily assistance, as well as offering emotional support to ease anxiety and foster trust.

By supporting people in their final days, you'll help ensure they experience comfort and dignity, surrounded by loved ones in accordance with their wishes.

Part of the Team

You will be a valued member of our Hospice at Home team, working closely with dedicated healthcare professionals. Under the guidance of the Community Services Manager, you'll receive ongoing support in your role.

Serving communities across Staffordshire, you'll provide home-based care that makes a lasting impact. By collaborating with families and professionals, you'll help build a compassionate network that uplifts both patients and their loved ones.

Core Responsibilities

* Support nutritional needs by preparing light meals and assisting with feeding and hydration.
* Assist with elimination needs (e.g., catheters and stoma care) with dignity.
* Provide pressure relief, repositioning, and minor dressing changes.
* Offer practical help such as bed-making, light housework, shopping, and respite care.
* Aid in symptom management under nursing direction, including monitoring syringe drivers and providing soothing touch or massage.

Emotional and Psychological Support

* Be a calm, compassionate presence for patients and families during all stages of care.
* Communicate clearly and sensitively to ensure understanding and comfort.
* Help reduce isolation and anxiety by fostering meaningful connections.

Observant and Responsive Care

* Maintain accurate, confidential records.
* Contribute to assessments and development of individual care plans.

Collaborative Teamwork and Service Support

* Work closely with the Hospice at Home team and external partners for coordinated care.
* Support weekend operations by assisting the on-call coordinator.
* Participate in meetings, share insights, and contribute to a positive team culture.

* Commit to ongoing professional development through training and appraisal.
* Report concerns or incidents promptly to uphold care standards.
* Foster a supportive work environment by offering and seeking help when needed.
* Use resources wisely to deliver compassionate care effectively.

* High standards of patient care with a focus on dignity.
* Strong, compassionate communication skills.
* Minimum two years' experience in a care setting, with proven empathy and competence.
* NVQ Level 2/3 in Care (or equivalent) preferred.
* Valid driving licence and access to an appropriately insured vehicle.

You'll enjoy being part of a close-knit, supportive team that values your input and encourages your growth. If you're adaptable, empathetic, and eager to be part of an organisation that treats every person with genuine care and respect, this could be a truly rewarding career for you.

What We Are Looking For

* A sincere passion for delivering compassionate care.
* Excellent, empathetic communication skills.
* A respectful, inclusive approach to all individuals, regardless of background.
