As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a vital role within the multidisciplinary team, working under the guidance and supervision of registered nurses, midwives, or nurse associates.

You will undertake a range of delegated clinical care duties, including patient observations, assisting with personal care, supporting nutrition and hydration, and maintaining a safe and dignified environment for patients.

Main duties of the job

1. To work as part of a team of staff providing clinical support to outpatient clinics under the supervision of registered nursing staff.
2. Ensure all the assigned clinical areas are tidy and ordered at all times and maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the environment.
3. To facilitate the operation of the main outpatient clinics by managing the flow of patients through clinics.
4. To ensure that all necessary information is available for clinics to operate effectively and to record clinical activity and outcomes using the appropriate hospital system.
5. To supervise less experienced staff in the clinical areas, ensuring patient focused care is delivered.

Person specification

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria

6. Certificates of competence in performing basic clinical observations and procedures
7. NVQ Level 3 (or 12 months experience at Band 3 or equivalent)
8. English Language GCE/GCSE or equivalent

Desirable criteria

9. Phlebotomy training
10. Management training

Experience

Essential criteria

11. Experience in Healthcare.
12. Knowledge of hospital administrative systems

Desirable criteria

13. Experience in an Outpatient Clinic Setting

Skills/knowledge/abilities

Essential criteria

14. Skill in performing basic personal care duties and clinical observations and procedures
15. The ability to use computers to enter and retrieve information
16. Able to follow precedent, policies and procedures and recognise when to escalate issues to a manager
17. Ability to participate in team meetings and make suggestions as appropriate for changes to working practice and procedures based on personal experience and observation

Desirable criteria

18. Able to deal with difficult situations with patients, public and visitors both face to face and on the telephone who may be anxious or distressed about health related issues in a tactful and sensitive manner. Includes imparting unwelcome news regarding delays to treatment on daily basis.
