Health Care Support Worker - Clywedog Ward

Health Care Support Worker - Clywedog Ward role with Powys Teaching Health Board (NHS). The post holder will work as part of a ward-based nursing team and carry out a range of tasks involving direct and non-direct care for the benefit of the patient. They will be in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse.


Job Description

The post holder will work as part of a ward-based nursing staff team and will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving direct and non-direct care for the benefit of the patient and will be in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse.

* Work within the core competency framework and deliver a range of basic nursing duties linked to minimum training requirements, providing competency to practice.
* Carry out a range of assigned tasks, participating in the delivery of basic nursing duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.


Main duties of the job

* Work as part of a ward-based team to assist in delivering a high standard of nursing care, behaving professionally at all times.
* Assist in adequate nutrition and hydration of individual patients as directed by the Registered Nurse; participate in food monitoring and complete documentation accurately.
* Keep the ward area clean and tidy; participate in general housekeeping and adhere to guidelines for disposal of dirty linen in accordance with Health Board Policies.
* Communicate daily with patients and relatives, ward staff and visitors in a polite, respectful, and courteous manner.
* Communicate effectively with patients, negotiate care using tact and persuasive skills, and overcome barriers to understanding (e.g., patients with sensory impairments).
* Use effective communication skills within the ward/department and with all team members, patients, relatives, and other departments.
* Attend and participate in ward meetings.
* Undertake basic nursing duties under supervision after training and completion of core competencies.
* Undertake care in accordance with the Fundamentals of Care standards.
* Assist in the movement and transfer of patients using manual handling aids as appropriate to maximise safety, in accordance with the patient’s care plan.

Person Specification

* Essential
* Qualifications and/or Knowledge: Demonstrate clear transferable skills valid to the health care setting equivalent to NVQ / QCF level 2; demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of the role.
* Desirable
* Possess or be working towards NVQ Level II Award
* GCSEs or similar qualifications
* Previous hospital experience


Experience

* Essential: Experience of working as part of a team
* Desirable: Previous experience in working in a caring setting
