This apprenticeship role is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to become a Service Manager in the health and social care sector. The apprentice will support the Service Manager in overseeing the delivery of high-quality, person-centred services under the Community Choices Framework while undertaking structured training towards a recognised qualification (e.g., Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care).
Key Responsibilities (under supervision)
Service Support
* Assist the Service Manager in day-to-day running of services across framework lots (Mental Health Recovery, Dementia, Social & Community Connections, Preparation for Employment).
* Shadow contract monitoring and reporting to commissioners.
* Support with preparing evidence, case studies, and outcome reports.
* Help to ensure compliance with safeguarding, CQC standards, and health & safety.
Team Support & Workforce Development
* Support recruitment, induction, and supervision processes.
* Learn to manage rotas, staffing levels, and team communications.
* Take part in staff training sessions and eventually co-facilitate with the Service Manager.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Shadow meetings with commissioners, service users, and families.
* Help gather feedback from service users and carers.
* Contribute to co-production and service improvement activities.
Learning & Development
* Complete required apprenticeship training modules and assessments.
* Apply learning directly in practice with mentoring support.
* Develop skills in leadership, problem-solving, contract management, and service improvement.
Training & Support Provided
* Enrolment on a recognised apprenticeship pathway (typically Level 5 Leadership for Health & Social Care).
* Mentoring and supervision from an experienced Service Manager.
* Regular review meetings to track progress and set development goals.
* Opportunities to shadow across different service areas (dementia, mental health, employment preparation, social connections).
Person Specification
Essential
* Passion for working in health and social care.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Willingness to learn, take on feedback, and develop into a leadership role.
* Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and person-centred care.
* Basic IT and report-writing skills.
Desirable
* Experience in a care/support worker role.
* Knowledge of Care Act 2014 and CQC standards.
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (or willingness to achieve during apprenticeship).
Progression Opportunities
* On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will be considered for a permanent Service Manager role within Kaplan Care.
* Further career development into regional or specialist service management.
