Job Description
Start Date: Immediately after Easter
Contract: Long-term, full time
Position: 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (Autism & Behaviour Support)
Setting: Mainstream primary (WF9)
A welcoming primary school in the WF9 area is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to provide full-time 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with significant autism-related needs. This is a long-term role ideal for an experienced SEND TA, Autism Support Assistant, or Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding position in a mainstream primary setting.
About the Role
This SEND Teaching Assistant role involves working closely with a Year 4 pupil who requires a personalised timetable and regular support outside of the main classroom. The pupil can experience dysregulation, challenges with transitions, and may test boundaries. A calm, consistent and structured approach is essential to helping the pupil access learning and feel safe.
The pupil has recently joined the school following a managed move and now needs a confident, stable adult who can support their reintegration into mainstream learning.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing 1:1 SEND support tailored to the pupil’s individual needs
* Delivering a structured and personalised daily routine
* Supporting autism-related needs, emotional regulation, and behaviour
* Helping the pupil to access learning inside and outside the classroom
* Maintaining calm, firm but fair boundaries
* Collaborating with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider staff team
* Following the pupil’s individual learning plan and bespoke timetable
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants who can offer:
* Experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, or Behaviour Support Assistant
* Knowledge of supporting pupils with autism, SEMH or complex SEND needs
* Patience, emotional resilience, and a calm approach
* Confidence with clear, consistent boundaries and behaviour support
* A willingness to engage with Team Teach or similar training if needed
* The ability to build trusting relationships and provide stability
Why This Role is Important
This is a key opportunity for a skilled SEND TA to make a lasting impact on a child’s development, confidence and reintegration into mainstream learning. Your support will play a vital role in helping the pupil feel secure, understood and ready to progress academically and socially.
